Robert T. Lyons Sr.

Robert T. Lyons, Sr., 67, a resident of Shrewsbury for the past 40 years, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus after a very courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves his loving children:Robert T. Lyons, Jr., and his wife, Cheryl of Shrewsbury; Maria L. Ambach and her husband, Steven of Shrewsbury and Mark M. Lyons of Worcester; seven wonderful grandchildren whom he adored: Phylisha, Robert III, Ashley, Jordan, Cole, Olivia, Will and a great grandson, Michael. Robert was from a large family, one of twelve, he is also survived by seven siblings: Dorothy "Midgie" Marinelli of Salem, Claire DeBerardinis and Patricia Morrissey both of Holbrook, Joanne MacNeil of Quincy, Jeannie Dunn of Norton and Katie Heyl and James Lyons, both of Weymouth; he also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and several good friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two bothers: William and John Lyons and two sisters: Barbara Boretti and Marian O'Handley.

Bob's was born and raised in Boston, son of the late John and Marian (O'Leary) Lyons and graduated from Brighton High School. Later he moved to Shrewsbury where he watched his children, of whom he was very proud of, grow and prosper in their own lives.

He had worked for over 18 years for the JST Transportation Company in Plainville, MA before he retired in December of 2009. Robert had been employed earlier in his life by for the United States Steel of Boston until the company closed.

Bob has always been an enthusiast sports fan. He started this love of sports when he was young and played softball for the Roxbury Red Raiders, where he also was a member of their bowling league. He continued his passion for sports as he grew older, playing many rounds of golf and watching all types of sports, especially keeping a close eye on his favorite New England teams.

Bob's main focus in life was for the well being of his children and extended family, who he always loved being surrounded by. He will be greatly missed by one and all.

Bob's relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Friday, July 2, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 from the funeral home with a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
