Roy Benson Obituary

Roy A. Benson, Sr., 92, died Friday, September 5, 2008, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. He leaves his wife, Mildred E. (Ewing) Benson. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 24th, also the anniversary of The Great Hurricane of 1938. He also leaves a son, Roy A. Benson, Jr., and his wife Priscilla of Shrewsbury; 2 daughters: Barbara J. Crocker and her husband David of Northbridge and Janet E. Wendell and her husband Edward of York, Maine; 6 grandchildren - Susan Duchemin, James Benson, John Benson, Beth Tucker, Mark Crocker, and Matthew Crocker; a brother-in-law, Berwell Ewing of Westboro; a sister-in-law, Irene Benson of Old Saybrook, CT; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Roy was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Benson; a sister, Grace Mills; and a grandson, Jeffrey R. Benson.

He was born in Worcester, son of Grace (Cooper) and Arthur Benson. Roy was a graduate of Leicester Academy and WPI's School of Industrial Management. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he was a Monday Volunteer. Roy was a member of Guiding Light Lodge AF & AM. He retired from CPC Engineering of Sturbridge.

A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Saturday, October 4th at 2 p.m. Burial in Worcester County Memorial Park will be private. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street is directing arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608 or the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602. To send an on-line condolence, please visit:
