Ruth L. Kimerling, 103
Worcester - Ruth Kimerling died peacefully Monday June 13th, 2016 at Christopher House, in Worcester. Ruth was formerly of Brookline, MA and Springhill, FL. Ruth was 103 years young.
Daughter of the late George Cohen of Russia, and May (Seigal) of Romania. Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, Brainerd (Ken) Kenning in 1971 and Martin Kimerling in 1988. Cherished mother of Joy Becker and her husband Michael of Wareham, and mother in law of Michael Pope of Amesbury. Loving mother of the late Leslie Pope and the late Bruce Kenning.
Adored grandmother of Mara Reynolds and her husband Robert of Northborough, Matthew Becker and Stephanie Rostolsky of Dedham, Melinda Halliday and her husband Christopher of Shrewsbury, Leah Kreiger of Easthampton, Catherine (Kitty) Malloy of Exeter, NH, Carol Howard of Kingston, NH and Scooter Malloy of Hemlock, MI.
Devoted great grandmother to Joshua, Andrew, Katelyn, Elizabeth, EJ and Haley. Great great grandmother to two.
Ruth spent much of her childhood in the South End of Boston with her grandparents Louis and Anna Cohen, Russian immigrants, who owned Rosen's Market. She attended primary school there at Rice School. She moved to Chicago with her family, graduated high school in 1931, and then attended secretarial school in Manhattan, NY.
Ruth returned to Boston where she married "Ken" and lived on Marlborough Street in Back Bay, until they moved to Brookline. She raised her family there, and also worked as a bookkeeper at All Stainless in Allston for many years. Treasured memories were made during summer vacations to Conway Lake, NH.
Ruth retired to Springhill, FL where she rekindled a young romance with Martin. They married, and spent many happy years together. She took many trips, including a cruise to the Orient. She spent her days walking to Pine Island, going to Temple, and playing Mah-Jong. At 91, Ruth returned to Massachusetts where she lived independently until she was 99. She remained sharp, witty and ever the flirt until her last days.
Ruth will be remembered for looking beautiful no matter the occasion, and for loving the attention of her adoring family. She loved lobster, collecting elephants, watching her great granddaughters dance, and stealing kisses from her great grandsons. She was loved and will be missed by many.
