Stephen Caputo Obituary

Stephen A. "Steve" Caputo

Shrewsbury - Stephen A. "Steve" Caputo, 61, of Shrewsbury, passed away August 18th surrounded by his loved ones after fighting a valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma.

He was a proud graduate of Saint John's High School '75 and Worcester Poly Technic Institute '79, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Steve's career as a Sales Professional in the semi-conductor industry spanned forty plus years.

A passionate golfer, Steve was one of the founders of the Cape Cod Elite 8 Golf Classic, now in its thirty-third year. He took great pride spending many hours tending to the lawn and garden at his home, shooting the breeze with his neighbors, and forging many friendships along the way.

Steve was a FOODIE before the word FOODIE became popular. Always the life of the party, you could hear him enter a room long before you actually saw him. Gifted with a unique sense of candor, you always knew exactly where you stood with him. His greatest accomplishment was his commitment to his wife, Cathy, and raising their children to be loving, responsible, and educated young adults.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Gaetano J. "Guy" Caputo, and mother, Dora (Galli) Caputo. He is survived by his wife Cathy (Bowe) Caputo, children Stephen, Cara, and Gina, brother Robert, godchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a close group of life-long friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, August 22nd. at the Chiampa Funeral Home ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass honoring his life will be celebrated on Friday, August 23rd. at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.

The Caputo Family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of 6ICU at the UMASS Medical Center for their compassion and expertise in his care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please donate to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. To view Steve's online tribute, share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.chiampafuneralhome.com.

I am very sorry to learn of Steve's passing. I was Steve's room mate in college our senior year. I also attended St John's high school with Steve. If memory severs, we spent a short time out in the Syracuse area after college with some other graduates. I only learned of his passing just now as I was reading the WPI Journal.
Steve was a great guy. He was lots of fun and his outgoing friendly ways help me make it through the rigorous program at WPI as I was just the opposite, shy and reserved. Even though we did not keep in touch over the years I often thought of Steve when I think about WPI. We both commuted to School for the first 3 years and I wanted to live on campus for my senior year. It was through Steve's connections with our other house mates that I was able to get in. For this I will always be grateful.
So to Steve's family please accept my heart felt condolences.

I was sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I had only known Steve for a short time but I enjoyed our time working together. I feel lucky to have met him and spend some time with him on a recent business trip. Just today as I write an email I would have liked to have got Steve's input from his years of experience. I will remember a lot of his advice and wisdom and will miss chatting to him. Rest in Peace.

Dear Caputo Family,
I know I speak for everyone at TAI when I say we are so very sorry for your loss. I have known Steve for about 10 years, but it only took a short time to know how passionate a man he was. Whether it was about Work, Pleasure or Family...he was all in. I will miss his trips to Philly and our search for the perfect sandwich, as well as his absurd use of Hot Pepper Flakes! I hope you can find some comfort knowing he is now at peace. Simply put, Steve was one of the good guys that worked very hard for the people around him. I will think of him often, always with a smile on my face. I miss him already.
Our sincerest condolences to you and your family.

m glad to have known Steve for 20 years; to have worked, golfed, eaten, drank, and laughed with him. A phone conversation with Steve was like a a phone conversation with Rodney Dangerfield, and I never remember getting off the phone with him without a smile on my face. he was one of a kind in our industry, honest and caring, and a very straight shooter. I'm very sorry about OUR loss, of him, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends. Miss ya Stevie.....

Dear Cathy and Family,

This is very sad news indeed. Steve was a co-worker of mine for many years. I live and work in California, but whenever I made trips to the East to help Steve visit customers, he always took very good care of me. He had a unique personality that I enjoyed and will always remember him as one of the good guys.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Cathy, Steve, Kara, Gina,
Both of us were saddened to learn of Steve's passing on Sunday. Steve & Cathy always knew how to throw a great party, particularly for Cecilia Bowe's 80th Birthday!! We had so many relatives and friends gathered for this event. We all had such a grand time! There were gatherings for Easter, Christmas and many other events as well! My Dad always enjoyed these gatherings and we would chat about them. We have you in our prayers that you will be supported through your grieving of this great loss. We care about you and will help in whatever things you need!! This is what families do for one another!
Love,
Anne Tisdell & Ron Vitkauskas

Cathy,
I am a recently retired former co-worker of Steves. I was sorry to hear of his passing. While Steve and I were not close, I have had recent experience with losing a loved one after a protracted illness. I can understand some of what you must be going through. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.
