Dr. Griffey was great surgeon- I learned so much from him in the OR, but I will always remember the little "life lessons" he shared with me and the other residents who worked with him. His zest for life is truly inspiring and I am a better person for knowing him. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

Kate, Thomas, Christopher, & Family,

Our heartfelt condolences to you all upon hearing of Steve's recent passing.

You are all such a huge part of our family's fond memories and are missed.

Although it's been nearly ten years since leaving Southborough for Seattle, it seems like yesterday. We have such wonderful memories of that time & they include you all - Halloweens & Power Rangers, Steve making hot graham cracker & milk snacks for the kids by the old kitchen's fire on snowy days, you both soothing and stitching up the neighborhood cuts & bruises, summers by the old pool, and your always gracious inclusiveness of all into your extended families' parties & events.

We wish you all much healing, peace, & love in the future.

With much fondness,

The Grants- Gary, Paulette, Casey, Corey & Shelby

To the Griffey Family

Dr. Steve was the most wonderful surgeon and one of the kindest and sweetest person we have ever met. That quirky grin, the twinkle in his eyes, the sense of humor; he had it all. His kindness and caring along with his dedication as a surgeon was evident the moment we met him; a true gentleman.

We are so sorry for your loss; how blessed all of you are to have had him in your life.

With Deepest Sympathy

Kate and family,
I had the pleasure of knowing both you and Steve from Worcester City Hospital SICU many years ago and more recently at UMass. Steve was always a pleasure to work with and never afraid to share his knowledge. He will be missed greatly, but please know that with time the wounds do heal. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time.

November 12, 2007

Steve's skill as a surgeon is what helped me beat cancer in 1994. However, it is for his kindness, caring, and "toughness" when needed for a scared and depressed patient and his family that he is, and will be for all the days to come, spoken of and remembered by my family and me. Our sincerest condolences to you and your children,

My memories of Stephen are from quite a few years ago. Donald and I spent many happy times with the whole Griffey family and are so grateful for that. Stephen has been in my prayers daily ever since I was told of his illness. My memories are good ones and I hope that in time you will all be able to focus on the warm and loving times you shared together as a family. Right now your pain is overwhelming but one day it will be replaced by happy and wonderful memories.
We are presently in Thailand for another 5 months but please know our hearts, our love and our prayers are right there with all of you.
