Stuart Leroy Obituary

Stuart C. Leroy, Jr., 86

Holden - Stuart C. Leroy, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, December 28, 2020, at Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Born and raised in Worcester, Stu was the son of Stuart C. and Agatha (Howard) Leroy and lived 49 years in Holden.

Stu was a graduate of North High School in 1952. In 1955, he graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. Stu honorably served his country in the United States Army as a phlebotomist while stationed in Germany.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army in 1958, Stu worked as a registered pharmacist at several hospitals and retail pharmacies. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Susan Scanlan, at St. Margaret's Church in Burlington. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November.

In 1974, Stu purchased Brentwood Pharmacy in Holden which he owned and operated until 1989. He continued to work as a registered pharmacist until his retirement in 2000.

Stu spent his retirement years focused on his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved watching Boston sports teams, listening to music, and taking Cape Cod summer vacations.

He was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. George Parish and its St. Vincent de Paul Society in Worcester. He was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Susan (Scanlan) Leroy; his children, Mary- Frances "Mim" Woolven and her husband, Ian of Riverside, CT, and Christopher Leroy and his wife, Jamie of Rutland; his grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Leroy and Miren and Eleanor Woolven; nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, George Leroy of Hanover and Mildred Musumeci of Merrimac.

Our family deeply appreciates the wonderful care Stuart received while at the Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. We will never forget the many acts of kindnesses and compassionate care he received during his stay.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, January 2nd, at St. George Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Appropriate social distancing and wearing of a mask will be required. Burial will take place privately in the spring at Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to WICN, 50 Portland St., Worcester, MA 01608. The Leroy family is part of so many of my good childhood memories. Brentwood Pharmacy was a real integral part of the neighborhood, and a great place for a teenager's first job. I'll always be able to remember Stu's voice and his unique humor. He was a truly, truly great guy and will surely be missed. My heartfelt condolences and much love to you all.

Sue and family, I am so sorry to hear of Stu's passing. During the 7 years I worked for Stu at Apple Drug/ Brooks Pharmacy I found him to be very friendly, caring and honorable as a Pharmacist and a person. He patiently taught me how to be a Pharmacy Technician with professional skills and compassionate respect toward all our customers. He was truly a gentleman. May he be at peace.
