CLINTON, MA / VERO BEACH, FL - Thomas J. Mason, 65, formerly of Clinton, passed away peacefully in Vero Beach, FL, on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
The son of the late Postsmaster Thomas Joseph Mason and Margaret (McDonald) Mason, Thomas was raised in Clinton, and was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1969. With an appointment by the late Congressman Philbin, Thomas attended West Point, before graduating from Assumption College, Worcester, in 1974. He then served as a Lieutenant with US Navy Intelligence from the late 1970's through the mid 1980's.
For many years, he was an educator, teaching all subjects to all levels of students in Florida schools.
Thomas is survived by his siblings: Peggy Fitzgerald, and her husband, Jay, Ann Mason, and Robert Mason; nephews Kevin Fitzgerald and his wife, Meg, and Robert Fitzgerald and his wife, Sheila; great-nephew and great-nieces, Callie, Lila, Scarlett, Kasey, John, and Aubrey; and extended family.
Private burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. There are no calling hours. McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Served with Tom Mason in the US Navy. We attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA in 1979 (Russian Language). He was a very intelligence gentleman and was later selected for Officer Candidate School (Newport, RI) and then related assignments in the intelligence field. Unfortunately, I have no photos of Tom in uniform.

I just learned of my dear friend Tom's death. He was my roommate at Assumption College when he first left West Point. We remained great friends through college and his Navy days. I tried to look him up when I was in Clinton about 20 years ago but no luck. He must have been a great teacher and I'm sure he left a lasting impression on the kids he taught. I am heart broken. To his family please accept my sincere condolences. He was one of a kind and probably the smartest guy I ever knew. I am so sad to learn this. I will pray for him and his family.

Please accept my condolences - I was Tom's Class Advisor at CHS Class of 1969 & Drama Coach. He was a friend to many & I enjoyed his sense of humor & caring nature.
