Vivienne Vlasaty Obituary

Vivienne (LaMance) Vlasaty of Northbridge, MA passed peacefully Sept. 19, 2010 in Whitinsville, MA at St. Camillus Nursing Home where she had been residing for the past few months.

She was predeceased by Anthony J. Vlasaty, her husband of fifty-eight years in 1998 and her son, Anthony J. Vlasaty, Jr. in 2009. Vivienne is survived by her brother, Eugene LaMance of Newton, NC; her daughter, Cynthia Vlasaty and her husband David Gillen of Northbridge; a son, Barry Vlasaty of Yonkers, NY; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Vlasaty of Ardsley, NY; eight grandchildren : Lorna (Smith) Couture and her husband, Mario of Auburn, NH; Christopher Smith and his wife, Lisa, of Millbury, MA; Karen (Vlasaty) Ashnault and her husband, Richard of Mahopac, NY; Laura (Vlasaty) Coapman and her husband, Russell of Holmes, NY; Eric Vlasaty and his wife, Ashley, of Beacon, NY; Jason Vlasaty and his wife, Melissa of Ardsley, NY; and Taylor and Whitney Vlasaty of Yonkers, NY; nine great-grandchildren: Dannica, Carleigh, Elena, Justine, Hunter, Danee, Brayden, Zachary and Benjamin.

Vivienne was born in Yonkers, NY on April 21, 1922, the daughter of Anna (Mahalik) and John LaMance. She and her husband moved to Florida in 1975. In 2004, she left Florida and resided with her daughter in Ohio and then in Massachusetts.

Vivienne began her love of dancing early and was an acrobatic and toe tape dancer in the 1930's and 1940's. She was on the original Ted Mack Amateur Hour and performed for many groups all over Westchester County. She toured the U.S. with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and with Major Bowes Revue. She worked as a riveter during WWII and later worked in various sales positions. She retired from Western Electric in Yonkers as an electronic technician. Vivienne enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, cooking, theater, traveling and entertaining, but her family was of the utmost importance to her.

Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday, September 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Most Holy Trinity Church, 18 Trinity Plaza on Saturday, September 25 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Most Holy Trinity Church in Yonkers, NY or to the Sisters of St. Cyril and Methodius, 580 Railroad St., Danville, PA 17821-1698. The order was founded by Vivienne's aunt, Mary Mahalik and two other sisters.
