Wallace Satas Obituary

Wallace "Wally" Satas, 85, a lifelong resident of Hudson, passed away October 1, 2007 at Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham.

He leaves his wife, Shirley (Comey) Satas to whom he was married for 59 years; two sons, John Satas and his wife Cynthia of Troy, NH, Daniel Satas of Hudson; and daughter, Judith LaCroix of Hubbardston, MA; six grandchildren, Nancy Oteri, Jessica Luoma and her husband Christopher, Jason LaCroix, Amy Morrison and her husband Colby, Alden Satas who is stationed in Iraq, and Alyssa Satas. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Michaela, Gabriel and Angel Poor; two sisters, Edna Riley of Marlborough and Mary Martel and her husband Paul of Hudson. His brother Joseph Satas passed away in 1992.

Wally was born in Hudson, son of the late William and Michalena (Jeremich) Satas. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII for 3 1/2 years in the European, African and Middle East theatres of the war. He received a citation from the Navy Department for his part in the invasion of Sicily in July 1943 when his ship was bombed and sunk after being attacked by 32 enemy bombers. He served as signalman aboard the Commodore ship, leading a large convoy of ships in the invasion.

He graduated from Hudson H.S. with honors in 1941. Following the war he attended Worcester Trade School under the G.I. Bill and took evening courses at Worcester Polytech Institute. He was employed for several years as an artist and machine designer with Boston Engineering Consultant firm. He was employed at Dennison Manufacturing as a Staff Engineer, and fifteen years with Data Printer Corp. in Malden as Director of Engineering. He was granted 5 patents from the U.S. Patent Office for some of his inventions created during his working years. He retired from Digital Equipment Corp. in Maynard in 1989 where he concluded his career as an engineer. He was a member of the former Christ the King Parish in Hudson and member of the Hudson Historical Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 5, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michaels Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA. Family and friends may attend calling hours Thursday, October 4, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will be in Forestvale, Hudson, MA.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I had the pleasure of working for Wally indirectly at Data Printer Corporation in Malden. He was responsible for my drafting career getting off the ground back in 1980 after being with the company for a year. I will always grateful for that as I am still in the same field.

Please accept my condolences at this difficult time.
