Wayne L. Nelson

Wayne L. Nelson, a longtime resident of Douglas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at home. Born in Lake County, Indiana on January 5, 1940, he was son of the late Ervin and Goldie (Hamilton) Nelson and lived 22 years in Douglas.

He is survived by his loving wife Lucille (Johnson) Nelson and their three children, Darrell Nelson and his wife Lisa of Milford, NH, Melanie Levenson and her husband Dr. Lewis Levenson of Longmeadow and Rhonda Parsneau and her husband Philip of Douglas; five grandchildren, Kyle and Craig Nelson and Alesha, Benjamin and Sophie Levenson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Gene and Elwood Nelson. Wayne and Lucille recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Wayne proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Rhodes and the USS Hawkins. He spent much of his working life in sales. He was a spirited advocate for the underdog and enjoyed serving as a union steward in the Bakers and Confectionery Union for many years helping others find solutions to their problems. In his retirement he found happiness working at Home Depot. Wayne had a lifelong love of music, people and animals, and especially dogs. He was a compassionate and understanding person and was a believer in everlasting life.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Service on Saturday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m at Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church, 305 Goldthwaite Rd., Whitinsville, MA. There are no calling hours. A private burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Acton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605. Fowler Kennedy Funeral Home, Maynard, Massachusetts 978-897-7343 is directing arrangements.

A courageous and beautiful soul, Wayne will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
