Born: Jun 14, 1938 | Died: Nov 8, 2025
Our family is sad to announce the passing of Charles Robert Youngstead on November 8, 2025 at the age of 87 years old.
Charles Robert Youngstead was born on Flag Day, June14, 1938 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was known to all as Bob, and often introduced himself as "Sweet Old Bob". His parents were Robert Marvin Youngstead and Mary Helen (Kline) Youngstead. Bob grew up in the small town of Adamsburg, Pennsylvania with a population of about 250 people. His family home was a large green house that was connected to a general store which his family owned and managed. In 1956, Bob started work at Westinghouse Corporation the day after his 18 th birthday, and would build his career there over the next 37 years. He graduated in 1963 with an Industrial Engineering Certificate from the Westinghouse Technical Night School, and continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Business Degree with a major in accounting in 1973. As his career grew, he moved from Pennsylvania to Jackson, Tennessee to become Plant Controller in Alamo in 1980.
His career path took him to Nashville, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri as Westinghouse merged with Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). After more than 37 years, Bob retired as Division Controller in 1993 from a career which he described as rewarding and satisfying. Bob and his late wife Natalie moved to Tellico Village in 1994, and often reflected on a wonderful life with numerous friendships built along his pathway.
Bob had many interests and hobbies that kept him active and brought him joy. Bob loved motorcycles and bought his first Harley at the age of 16 for $50. His favorite bike was a 2005 Harley Ultra-Classic which he often rode on local routes with Tellico Riders Motorcycle Club, and also on trips to Daytona FL, Sturgis SD, and Laconia NH. In July of 2014, Bob and several friends from Tellico had a "bucket list" trip where they toured Jackson Hole Wyoming, as well as national parks including Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, and Rocky Mountain. They also visited a number of state parks with beautiful scenery over thirteen days and 3.300 miles.
Bob enjoyed golf, and often played the courses in Tellico Village and near his winter home near Lake Placid FL three or four days a week. If not on the golf course, Bob could be found fishing Tellico Lake in Tennessee or Grassy Lake in Florida. Bob was an avid hunter, and belonged to Manor Hunting Camp near State College, PA. In summers, this secluded camp was often enjoyed by extended family and brought many fond memories to all. Many evenings and weekends were spent dancing at Tellico Village Yacht Club, or at a local Elks Club or Moose Club. Bob also belonged to the Tellico Village Lions Club, Tellico Village Fishing Club, and the Tellico Village Solo Club. Sundays were spent at Brush Creek United Church of Christ while living in Pennsylvania, and at his beloved Tellico Village Community Church in retirement. Bob believed in God and prayed daily. Bob was described by his family and friends as a good man, loyal, fun-loving, hard-working, strong, intelligent, wise, and very patriotic.
Bob treasured his family. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and always made time for those he loved. Vacation time was spent traveling with family or hosting family gatherings. Bob is survived by his daughter Christine Lipko (Larry), daughter Brenda Hill (David), son Ken (Shelly), sister Jean Buckley, and dear friend and companion Susan Atkinson. He was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, five great granddaughters, and six nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Meredyth, wife of 50 years Natalie, sister Kathryn Hixson, grandson Bryan, and nephew Tom.
A Celebration of Life honoring Bob Youngstead will be held on Saturday December 6, 2025 at the Community Church at Tellico Village at 11:00 AM with refreshments following. All family and friends are invited to attend. Donations honoring Bob can be made to The Community Church at Tellico Village.
