George Milton Walter, born September 24, 1935, passed away on November 16, 2024.
George was born in Kendallville, IN. Growing up, he lived in several places in both Indiana and Michigan.
He graduated from Kendallville High School, Ball State University with a BS in Education, and obtained his Masters Degree from Indiana University.
He spent four years in the Navy, where he served as an Electronics Technician and for shore stations. He served on both the USS Wisconsin and the USS Newport News.
After his discharge, he met Pat on a blind date and they married one year later. They were married 65 years. George was a devoted husband to Pat, and caring father to sons Gregory (Cynthia), Christopher (Ann) and Bradley (Tina).
He enjoyed being a grandfather to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. George had six siblings: David (Myrt), Rebecca Mayou (Larry), James, Frederick and John. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, his brother David and his parents James Russell Walter and Isabel (Schutt) Walter.
In 1999, George and Pat moved to Tellico Village where they became members of the Community Church of Tellico Village. George served on many committees including Council Chairperson.
He worked part-time at ADESA, an auto auction in Lenoir City, and said this was his recreation. He always told people he had already mastered golf!
Early in his marriage, he was an avid runner ultimately participating in three marathons and many shorter races. Boating was the family recreation, and all enjoyed water skiing and tubing.
George's first job out of college was teaching chemistry, physics and math in Tipton, IN. From there, he held jobs in production supervision, process engineering and quality control until ending up in sales for automotive parts. Through the years, he was an active member of the Jaycees, school board and other community functions.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Church at Tellico Village or to Honor Air Knoxville, PO Box 12990, Knoxville, TN 37912.
A celebration of life will be held at the Community Church at Tellico Village on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
