Peter Weber Jr., 103, passed away Jan. 26, 2023.
He was a career military officer, having spent 30 years in the service of his country as a United States Air Force pilot and flight instructor, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
"Pete" saw service during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He flew 32 different aircraft types, both military and civilian. At age 95 years and 143 days, he captured the Guinness World Record as the world's oldest active pilot. He continued to fly until age 97, finally putting it aside to care for his wife, Ruthie. After Ruthie, flying was his first love. He was an avid golfer and woodworker and loved to travel.
In his last years, Pete moved to Tellico Village with his son and daughter-in-law, residing a few doors away from them in the Tanasi neighborhood. After two years in Tanasi, he moved to Premier Residences at Tellico Village, where he made many wonderful friends.
Pete traveled extensively during his military career and later with Ruthie, visiting all 50 states, all 10 provinces and three territories of Canada, most of the Caribbean islands, 46 other countries on six continents and numerous Pacific islands. During the course of his life, Pete lived in 68 different residences. One might say he was a well-traveled individual!
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Coral Mae Weber; sister, Joyce Marie Krug; and his wife of 74 years, Ruth Marjorie.
He is survived by his son, Pete III; Pete's wife, Darlene; grandchildren, Brent and Bryce Weber; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Allie Weber; and his niece, Valerie Mae Cox.
