I attended Mount Vernon Nazarene from 1971 through spring of 1976. I watched the food service change from the first food service to what Barney created. In the fall of 1971, an innovative English course was taught outside of town. The professors were there three days each week with different students. Barney organized suppers all three days each week all fall and had them sent to us at the English class.

Recently I worked on campus for a few years and saw the latest of what Pioneer is doing. Several years ago, the university had back on campus beginning students, faculty, and staff. I was privileged to have a part in that event. Jenny Hall returned for the weekend. She was glad to be present and we were glad to have her with us. She was part-time switchboard operator for the campus during the first year.

I had an E-mail from Rick Ferguson, neighbor of the Halls when they lived in Mount Vernon. He told me that Barney was his first employer when Barney ran "Barney's the independent place in town. Rick also told me how his parents, Juanita and Roland Ferguson (founding staff of Mount Vernon Nazarene) had faith in Barney's qualities and were loyal to him both at "Barney's" and in his beginning days of Pioneer Foods. Walt Baughman, former Alumni president and former Archivist Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn Barney's passing and celebrate his abundant life. As a student at MVNC, class of '77, we always told him that the college should name the cafeteria "Barney Hall." He was a great guy and I have many fond memories of him in the early years of our school. He will be missed.

To all the Barney Hall family, I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I was right behind the pioneer class at MVNC in the 2nd year and we could always count on Barney to bring a smile to our face and laughter into our lives as he would joke around and kid with us on campus. Barney we will miss your warm, kind spirit. Heaven is rejoicing now.

I am so sad about the passing of my friend Barney. He was such a caring and nice man to me over all the years I have known him. I used to enjoy fishing at his ponds when I was practically a boy, he purchased my honey moon for me and my wife's wedding present, he always asked about my family, and over the last ten years his visits to my business were always enjoyable. His friendship to me and my dad is irreplaceable. He will be terribly missed.
