MAY, JR., Carl E.Age 84 of Nashville. July 28, 2013. Carl Eugene May, Jr., (December 28, 1928 - July 28, 2013). A former newspaperman who was born and reared in Elkton, KY, a 1952 graduate of Murray State University, and attended graduate school at the University of KY. His first newspaper job was with The Todd County Standard in his home town. He spent two summers at The Nashville Tennessean as a reporter while still in school and following two years of U.S. Army service he rejoined The Tennessean as a copy editor. For 22 months in the late 1950s he was a one-man bureau, stationed in Hopkinsville, and covered the entire state of Kentucky. For the next 30 years he was Promotion Director and then Public Affairs Director for The Tennessean, doing a variety of public relations projects. May retired from The Tennessean in 1989. He drew a comic strip for 15 years, "Sorehead", and has written a number of magazine articles on the subject of cartoons and cartoonists. Prior to the 2009 presidential election, he did a series of political cartoons, "Mr. Prez", for The Todd County Standard. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline MacMaster May; daughter, Jennifer (David) Harvard; three grandchildren, Chelsea, Mia and Kai; sister, Ginger May of Nashville. May was a member of Woodmont Christian Church. Visitation with the family will be at the church on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN 37215 at 12 noon on Friday, August 2, 2013. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Woodmont Christian Church or Alive Hospice. Services entrusted to TENNESSEAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES.
