Charles was an avid Alabama football fan. Bear Bryant and Nick Saban were his heroes. On game day he would decorate
His jazzy with Alabama car flags, put on his houndstooth hat and with Aubie on his lap playing the Alabama fight song he would ride all over NHC to the delight of his buddies. His was a life well lived and so loved by by so many. We talked on the phone every day . Our last words to each other was I love you. Anne

I am saddened by the loss of COACH McKinney, a very special man, teacher, and coach . I graduated from Hillwood High School in 1968. I have so many great memories of Coach McKinney whether it be from a pep rally, Friday night football game, or American History class. He loved his students and they all had stories about him. My story is that I don't think he ever really knew my name but he always called me "cheerleader " so I always called him COACH. He was always positive and entertaining with the kids and he always had a smile for us. Well done, Coach McKinney! I am sure you have a special reward waiting for you! You were well loved and you will be missed in this life. Your cheerleader and big fan,Kay (Henry) Felts

Mr Charles was a wonderful kind and caring man. I had the pleasure of cutting his hair for several years at NHC of Cool Springs. He still would call me at home in the following year and check on my family and kids. I always loved listening to his stories of coaching in school and goin to the grand ole opry listening to his favorite musicians. He loved Alabama football as well as food! I'm sure that a lot of the employees from NHC will remember his chick filet day once a month when he supplied us all with sandwiches. He was always giving to everyone weather it was candy or what. He will be dearly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him. RIP my dear friend!

Charles was a successful football coach at Hillwood High School for over thirty years . He was beloved by his football player and they visited him in the nursing home. They also attended his birthday parties given by his son. Hill wood also honored him when the mayor declared Charles McKinney Day in Nashville. They also built a pressbox and named it for him. He was a great teacher and made history come alive for his students.

Charles was like a grandfather to us. He loved to travel. I loved his teaching stories, especially since I became a teacher, too. His funny Southern sayings were a constant source of laughter. He will be missed by all. May his memory be eternal!

Mr. McKinney was a well loved teacher at Hillwood High school for many years. He was a social studies teacher and sold candy at his class room door to support some of the school athletics programs. He was a patient and kind teacher. I can remember his voice in the hallway as he stood there between class changes. " Get your M&Ms, Reece's Cups right here " Always a nice teacher and was so well loved by his many students.
Prayers for his family,
