Christine Langseth Benagh died on May 4 at the age of 93. Raised in Nashville she graduated as Valedictorian and Prettiest Girl from Central High School in 1941 and Vanderbilt University Cum Laude in 1946. She married Henry Collier Benagh in 1945. Christine provided a wonderful childhood to her four children - Christine Benagh of Washington, DC, Barbara Benagh of Durham, NC, Henry Benagh of Miltown Malbay, Ireland and Mary Benagh O'Neil of Nashville.

Christine was active at St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Donelson and, later, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She established a kindergarten at St. Phillip's and became an editor at Methodist Publishing House before starting her own an firm, WordWorks. She was the author of three published books including An Englishman in the Court of the Czar.

Christine is survived by her beloved children, son-in-law Brian O'Neil, daughter-in-law Bernadette McCarthy Benagh, her grandchildren Sarah Sattin and husband Joshua, Annie Ruth, Lucy and Elizabeth Benagh, great grandsons David and Noah Sattin.and close friends Lee Ann Anderson, Janice Crane, Sam Brown, and Hal Weatherby as well as other relatives and dear friends. She will be greatly missed.

In Mother's last days she told two of her children how she wanted her obituary to read and this is what she said, "The train has left the station early, sorry if you did not get your invitation."

Family will receive visitors Monday May 8, 4-7 pm at Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home, 201 25th Ave. N., Nashville, TN 37203 where a Trisagion will be prayed at 4:00. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 9 at 1:00 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4905 Franklin Pike, Nashville followed by internment at Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike.

Pallbearers for Christine are James N. Anderson, George Anderson, Hal Weatherby, Brian O'Neil, David Taber, and Tim Weeks. Honorary pallbearers are John Sanders and Fred Proyce.

Christine was my first boss at my first "real" job at Abingdon Press. I learned so much from her. Plus she was fun and kind and gentle. She would take our work team on outings (shades of the kindergarten days perhaps) which were a delight. I know she will be missed. My condolences to her family and friends. Fifty two years ago Mrs. Benagh was my Kindergarten teacher. I have wonderful memories of that year. There were lots of vanilla wafers. There were countless stories read aloud - I remember being amazed that Mrs. Benagh could read sideways - with the book held open on an art easel so that we could all see the pictures. Mrs. Benagh poured out love and her respect for children made us feel very important. She taught us how to dance the May-pole and make an excellent braid of bright colored ribbons around the pole. I will always cherish her hand written notes in her beautiful penmanship that I have saved through the years. The contents of which stays with you for a lifetime.

So great that I got to spend several afternoons with Christine over the years. She could light up any room with her wit, charm, intellect and grace.

Christine radiated Christian love and forbearance. She brought her Orthodox Christian Faith to her service on the Parish Council as we built our church by providing a steadying influence on our deliberations often with just a smile and a kind word or two. Christine will be missed. May her memory be eternal!

What fond memories we will always have of beautiful Christine. Kind & loving inside & out. She introduced me to my future husband, Jason, after The Ressurection Service, Easter, 1993. She so kindly helped me write a Non-Denomnational Invocation I had to say at the beginnning of our Rotary Club of Nashville luncheon meeting. Christine will forever be in our hearts. Our deepest condolences to The Benagh Family.
