Cynthia VUTSINAS Obituary

VUTSINAS, Cynthia Thompson After valiantly fighting brain cancer for over 11 months, Cynthia, age 52, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 31st. Preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy, Cindy leaves many family members and friends to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life of faith and service. Evan, her best friend and husband of nearly 30 years, is left with so many wonderful memories. Together since the 11th grade, the devoted couple married after Cindy graduated from Clemson University in 1980. Mrs. Vutsinas was so proud of their two sons, Christopher and Steven. In fact, her career outside the home began with the sole purpose of helping to fund the education of her boys at Montgomery Bell Academy. Seeing Chris graduate from Clemson and then marry his college sweetheart Megan, and seeing Steve graduate Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Florida, were some of Cindy's proudest memories. In addition, Mrs. Vutsinas is survived by her father, Marvin and his wife Joyce. Their nightly phone calls and frequent visits helped to make Cindy's last months comfortable. Throughout their adult lives, but especially during her illness, Cindy's sister Carol was her confidant, friend and devoted caregiver. Recently spending quality time with step-brother John and his family was a source of pleasure for Cindy. Generous and selfless in life and in death, and always content to quietly lead by example, Cindy has donated her body to the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital for medical research, knowing that her soul and sweet spirit will forever reside in Heaven. A service to celebrate Cindy's life will be held at Hermitage United Methodist Church - Fellowship Building, 4250 Andrew Jackson Parkway, Hermitage, TN 37076-2204 on Saturday, June 5th at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to support Alive Hospice of Nashville, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203-2926.

Cindy was a kind and gentle soul, quietly caring for those around her. Maybe that's why her occasionally wicked sense of humor was such a fun surprise. She'll be so greatly missed by so many. My prayers are with you all.

I have not seen Cindy or Evan since graduating back in '76. This picture of Cindy exudes her charm and warmth, that I've always associated with her. Evan, I know you'll have a void that will never be filled. Continue to cherish her. Both of you have touched so many lives and have shown us what great human beings are all about!

This afternoon I received an email on my blackberry that said "A bit of sad news". Before I opened it I knew that Cindy had passed away. It is sad for us here, but there is joy in that Cindy is already where John spoke of the New Jerusalem in Revelations 21:4 ..."He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Evan, I praise God for Cindy's testimony and for the influence she had on some many people here. As you and the boys grieve for her here, and rightly so, may our Heavenly Father provide you the peace that passes all understanding. And I rejoice with you that you will see her again! Hallelujah. We have been blessed to have Cindy as a part of our family for so many years! We are so thankful for the way that she loved Evan and the boys. Ev, we are so sorry for the loss and pain that you and the boys are going through but are blessed to know that she is no longer suffering and is dancing on the streets of gold with her Lord and Savior! The obituary really was precious, just like Cindy!

I have been blessed to have Cindy as my Sunday School teacher for my 3 years at HUMC. What a joy to have known her, and to call her my friend! Thoughts and prayers to Evan, the boys, and the rest of the family. She will be missed, but she now knows all the answers to all the questions we discussed in Sunday School and more......

Cindy will be forever remembered as a kind and sweet person. She did not have a mean bone in her body! I knew Cindy since Elementary school and loved being her friend. Her musical talents will also be forever remembered. Her smile was contagious and her affection for "doing good" is to be admired! I feel blessed to call Cindy my friend and look forward in being reunited in the Great Kingdom of Heaven. ....Shine on, Cindy -- shine on!

Even during her school years at Surrattsville, Cindy "quietly lead by example." Cindy's family should be so proud to know that Cindy had a positive affect that was long-lasting. I feel blessed to have been raised in the same church as Cindy; she was a joy to know. God Bless Cindy's family and friends. Cindy does live on.
