David Adams Jr.

Atlanta, GA - David Porterfiled Adams, Jr. 87, peacefully passed on January 26 at his home in Atlanta, GA. He was born on March 8, 1931 in Nashville, TN to David Porterfiled Adams, II and Mildred Goodpasture Adams. After attending Montgomery Bell Academy he graduated from Davidson College and furthered his education with post graduate work at both Vanderbilt and Northwestern. His talent and charisma allowed him success as both a financial analyst and as a joint proprietor with his wife of the Adams Edgeworth Inn, Monteagle, TN, and the Adams Hillborne Inn, Chattanooga, TN. His dedication to others was such that he enlisted and served as a Marine in the Korean War. He was loved for his cheerful disposition, quick wit, interesting conversation, and integrity. David is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Wendy Oehlert Adams; his children, David Porterfiled Adams, III of Atlanta, GA, Morgan Goodpasture Adams (Kimberly) of Chattanooga, TN, and Devereux Adams Socas (James) of McLean, VA, stepdaughters Kendle Clark Jenkins and Ashley Jenkins Collins (Chris) both of Atlanta, GA; as well as his brothers Dillard Goodpasture Adams (Susan) of Nashville, TN, and Howell Garrett Adams (Lane) of Louisville, KY. He is predeceased by his sister Comfort Adams Randolph (Judson) of Nashville, TN. His children, step children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces were important to him, and "Uncle David" was important to them. David donated his body to the Emory University School of Medicine for research. A memorial Service will be held on July 6,2019 at his family summer home in Beersheba Springs, TN .
