Joel J.G. Lehman

Nashville - Joel passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2018 in Nashville, TN. He was born in Harmon, Illinois and attended Dixon High School where he was Valedictorian of his class. He met his wife, Katharine, at Beloit College where they both were students. They were married for over 65 years and had two sons, Jeff and Jonathan.

He graduated from Beloit College and received his masters degree from Colgate University. He was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He later served in the Navy at an atomic air base at Port Lyautey, Morocco, before spending the majority of his career in financial and brokerage services. He felt his true calling was always helping others and making the world a better place. He volunteered at his local Episcopal church and was on the vestry. He was also actively involved in the YMCA, Lions Club, and the Estate Planning Council.

While successfully raising his sons with wife Kathy, he earned a CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation to further his insurance and financial career. He was devoted to Kathy, and enjoyed playing golf and poker, shooting basketballs, being a baseball and life coach to his sons, watching the athletic events his grandkids were involved in, and following sports actively on television. He and Kathy traveled to many places around the world and especially enjoyed visiting Israel. He recently attended his 70th high school reunion. He was known for being fair minded, honest, positive, well liked by anyone he met, gracious and giving, a smart investor, having a big heart, always enjoying a good laugh, and surrounding himself with wonderful friends and family.

He is survived by sons Jeff Lehman and Jon Lehman, grandchildren Jeremy Lehman and Doni Lehman, his sister Lorraine Stonesifer and brother Gil Lehman, and former daughter-in-law Ellen Eskind Lehman.

Funeral services will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville, TN. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your local YMCA.
