John Howard Gentry of Nashville, Tennessee died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Southern Hills Medical Center; he was 54 years old.
Mr. Gentry, preceded in death by his parents Howard Orville and Patricia Morris Gentry, is survived by his sister Denise Petrunak (David); niece Rachel Rabalais; great nephew Wyatt Rabalais; longtime companion Debbie Smith; cat Fluffo; and a multitude of family and friends.
Mr. Gentry loved boating and NASCAR, and was a huge Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan.
Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday, 4:00 thru 8:00, with a Celebration of Life on Friday, 1:00; at the Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN 37221.

John was loved by many.. He worked at Mapco for many years where I would see him once, or twice a day.. Since we're both from The Hall we would talk about everything for the brief time I was there.. Going to miss seeing him.. Prayers go out to his friends and loved ones..

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the absolute privilege of seeing John several times a week at Mapco. I loved seeing him and talking with him, especially when there was extra time. Last winter when we had the ice storm, my son and I went for a walk and there was John's blue truck at the store. We chatted for 30 minutes then continued on in the cold. He was such an asset at that store, no one was more reliable. But more than that, I enjoyed his grumbling and made every attempt to bring him a little sunshine when I got to see him. I will miss his face and his excitement when Talledega was coming up.. I'm very saddened with his passing. God's blessings to his family.
