John R. Setters

Whites Creek - John Raymond Setters, age 93, died on Monday evening, January 22. He was born October 6, 1924 to John and Esther Roberts Setters

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold and a sister, Mildred.

He is survived by his wife of 69 1/2 years, Vista (Vickey) Ponter Setters; one son, John Emanuel and wife Emmally; a grandson, Marshall and his wife, Heather and a granddaughter, Kelley; nephews, John (Heather) Setters of Rhode Island, Carol (Terry) Colorado; Cynthia Setters, Nashville; Diana (Dennis) Trombley and Kandice Setters, Louisiana; Randy (Corley) Ponter, Falkville, AL; Craig (Ravona) Ponter, Decatur; Mike (Linda) Ponter, Florida; Diane Butler, New Mexico, Karen (Sal) Bauer; Alabama and many great nieces and nephews and friends and a very special cousin, Brenda Allison Holt of North Carolina.

He was a Navy Veteran, joining in 1943 and serving through 1947. He was one of the original Frogmen. He was on Omaha Beach, D-Day and later in Okinawa.

Above all he was a Christian who loved God, His family and friends and his Country.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24

at the Bethel church of Christ, 7185 Whites Creek Pike, Joelton and from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:30. a.m. with services by Keith Howell and Garvin Claiborne, Ministers at Bethel church of Christ. Burial in Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers any gifts should be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Veterans Association. Pall bearers will be Johnny Setters, Marshall Setters, Heather Setters, Jason Poff, Danny Proctor and Michael Cole. Honorary pallbearers elders and deacons at Bethel church of Christ and the former Young Ladies Class at the former Whites Creek church of Christ.
