When I married Joe's sister, Marietta, in 1960, their father had died, so Joe played the role of both brother-in-law and father-in-law in assisting us with the marriage. Then as my brother-in-law he was a kind and loyal friend. I will always remember Joe as very considerate and sensitive to the needs of others. - Doug Carpenter
