Mark Kay Obituary

Mark Edward Kay

Hermitage, TN

Mark Edward Kay, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2015.

Mr. Kay was born September 13, 1932 to the late James E. and Brucie Hurt Kay, and was a life-long resident of Hermitage, TN. He was a member of Tulip Grove Baptist Church and served as a deacon of New Hope Baptist Church for many years.

Mr. Kay was a graduate of Donelson High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 in Germany. After returning home, he had a 36 year career with Ford Glass Plant. He retired in 1996 as a supervisor. Mr. Kay was a hard worker with a natural talent for fixing anything from electrical to woodwork to cars; he enjoyed helping others using those talents. He was a Ford man who loved tinkering with cars, farming, reading, and traveling. Some of his fondest travel memories were when a group of Ford friends and spouses went to Hawaii together, trips to Alaska where he fished for salmon, and his 50th wedding anniversary trip to the Grand Canyon with his children and grandchildren.

He loved his family more than anything on earth and especially loved being "Poppy" to his precious grandchildren. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Faye Evelyn Castleman Kay; children, Darlene (Jamie) Johnson, Donna (Jim) Campbell, Danette (Bill) Winkler and David (Sarah) Kay; several grandchildren and many other family members, all of who he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Bond Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Larry Dearth officiating. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Jim Campbell, Michael Campbell, Josh Campbell, Dan Smith, Lynn Wheeler, Mike Firkins and Tyus Fort. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class from Tulip Grove Baptist Church.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to caregivers, Tyrus Fort and Loretta Malone.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service time Saturday, at Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet, TN (615) 773-2663; Obit Line, (615) 641-2663. www.bondmemorial.com

My sincerest condolences to the Kay family. Our only consolation is that Mr. Mark is in the arms of Jesus, no longer in pain and someday we will all be united in Christ. Bless you all, Ms. Faye, Darlene, Donna, Danette and David.

We attended church with Mark and Fay at both New Hope Baptist as well as being in S.S. with them at Tulip Grove BC. We found Mark to always be such a pleasant and jovial person to everyone he came in contact with. Our sad loss is certainly Heaven's large gain. May you RIP, Mark.
