Martha Burrows Obituary

Martha Helen Kerr Burrows

Franklin - Martha Helen Kerr Burrows, 86, of Franklin, TN passed away at her home on Monday morning, the 22nd of February. She was born October 2, 1934 in Galena, IL to the late William Blaine Kerr and Helen Lucille Menzimer Kerr.

Martha is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert Van Burrows; daughter, Kathryn McClellan; son, Jeffrey Burrows; granddaughter, Leah McClellan Welty (Matt); great-grandchildren, Jacob, Wyatt, and Hannah Welty.

Martha graduated from West Senior High School in Rockford, IL. She attended DePauw University and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in Chicago. She worked for Conde Nast Publishing until her marriage in 1957.

After their marriage, Martha and Bob lived in Chicago for three years and after the birth of their daughter, moved to Nashville around 1960.

She was grateful for the many friends she met through the New Neighbors Club. She was a long time member of the Belle Meade United Methodist Church and she enjoyed many years of membership in the Suburbia Garden Club, PEO, Gourmet Club, and Knit Club.

Martha was a wonderful cook, enjoyed tennis, was an avid reader, and in her later years enjoyed crossword puzzles, connecting via Facebook, and playing online games including bridge on her ipad. Her friends describe her as loving, kind, thoughtful, fun, sweet, supportive, calm, helpful, witty, and ladylike. Her family is comforted by knowing she's in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held at Belle Meade United Methodist Church on Saturday March 13th at 11:00am.
