Born August 4, 1925 in Lewisburg, TN. She attended Marshall County Schools, graduating high school in three years as Valedictorian. She graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brenau College, Gainesville, GA. While at Brenau, she was the President of the Senior Class and also her Phi Mu Sorority.
She married James H. Henry, Sr. on June 30, 1949 and taught Spanish at Cumberland University, while her husband obtained his law degree from Cumberland Law School. In June 1950, she moved to Tullahoma with Jim, where he established the Henry & McCord Law Firm.
Active in the Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School classes and assumed the Vice-Presidency of the United Methodist Women.
A member since 1947 of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she served as the Tennessee DAR State Historian.
Predeceasing her were her father and mother, Virgil Graydon Miller and Iva Pearl Miller, brother, Virgil Graydon Miller, Jr., and husband James H. Henry, Sr.
She is survived by three children, Marees (Walker) Choppin, Nashville, TN, Jim (Lisa) Henry II, Tullahoma, TN and Pat (Richard) Poyle, Birmingham, MI; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Katie (Jamie) Davenport, Tullahoma, TN, Will Choppin, Nashville, TN, Brian (Amy) Choppin, Nashville, TN, Laura (Scott) Randolph, Pegram, TN, Joshua Hayes, Seattle, WA, Jeremy (Shannon) Hayes, Chickamauga, GA, Jessie Hayes, Smyrna, TN, and Erin (Chris) Quiroga, Farmington Hills, MI; great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, James Davenport, Penn Hayes, Cohen Hayes, Campbell Hayes, and Pressley Choppin; and several loving caregivers who helped her greatly in her final months.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Kilgore Funeral Home, Tullahoma, from 5-8 p.m. with the services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in First United Methodist Church, Tullahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to one of the following: The Parish Nursing Ministry of the First United Methodist Church in its Henry Center, or Partners For Healing.
