This photo of Max was taken in Japan when he was in his early 20s. He was a paratrooper at the time and we jumped together frequently. He was a very intelligent man with an impressive military experience. My wife, Mary Sue and I introduced him to his wife Nancy. My condolences to his family.
Sincerely, former Sargent George E. Davidson

Belatedly, I would like to convey my condolences to the Lankes family. Max and I served together as Airborne/ Rangers in the 1/501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (1962-1965); and again in the 199th Infantry Brigade (Sep) (Light), in Vietnam (1968-1969). I discovered his death today, as I thought about the 50th reunion of our combat service this summer. I will never forget the sad day he told me he had to return home for the burial of his son. Max was an outstanding officer and a devoted patriot - he will be sorely missed. RIP, my friend. Dennis F. Hightower, Washington, DC

Max Lankes was our neighbor on Medearis Drive, Old Hickory (Mt. Juliet). His wife Nancy greeted us warmly upon our transfer from New York City in 1970. His children were most gracious to ours. We especially became good friends with his stepdad, Jim and mother, Maria Mulhern. A most wonderful and loving family. Max loved his country and his neighborhood and always was a contributor to social and school efforts. He now joins his wonderful Nancy in Heaven. Max, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY and now "Requiescat in Pace - Rest in Peace", my good friend.
