Just keeping the memories alive of my USN student. You were such a joy to know as a student and an individual. I was so very proud when I learned that you were going into education. It just warmed my heart and soul. While I miss you, I still remember that gorgeous smile and tenacious spirit for learning that you had. I love you. Ms. Thompson, Teacher at USN, 1975 - 2007

Hello, Dr. Foster, Mrs. Foster, Wendell and Family. This is Pam Thompson, Myrna's former lower school Phys. Ed. & swimming Teacher at USN. I am just learning of her passing and am devastated and heart broken! I remember Myrna as a happy, cooperative and friendly little girl. Myrna always had a beautiful smile and was willing to go that extra "mile" to do her personal best. I also remember being very proud when I learned that Myrna was interested in being in going into education and wanting to be a "Teacher". I can tell that Myrna was an outstanding educator by the testimonials of the posts by her colleagues, parents and students! I am so sorry I wasn't in Nashville to properly celebrate her Home Going. My sympathy, love and continued prayers will always be with your family. 9.18.17

Dear Dr. & Mrs. Foster and Family,

My name is Bernard Gross. I had the privilege of working with Myrna as principal from 1990 to 2001.

From the very first time I met Myrna, I knew she loved her students, her profession of teaching science and everyone else with whom she worked.
Her passing was a great shock to me.

I came to know that the Myrna that I saw every day was the real Myrnano pretentiousnessa gentle person, always respectful of everyone, vibrant in life, extremely kind in her words and reactions to other people, always gave the other person the benefit of the doubt no matter how challenging the situation, diligent in all she did including her lesson plans and doing preps for lab classes.

She noticed everything around her, was very observant, always had valuable insights about events in the school and, if asked, would share them in a straightforward, but gentle manner.
I know that Myrna's traits and character come from parents and family who share the same values. The qualities that Myrna possessed were instilled by you over the years. In the midst of this sad occasion, I hope this is some comfort to you.

I have some sense of your loss because just a few years back I lost my son, a soldier for 21 years. One does not get over the loss of a child.

It's the memories of a child's character that remain; it's their legacy. It's also the knowledge that you did your best as parents to instill a sense of purpose, character, and love that led a daughter like Myrna to touch the lives of so many students, colleagues and friends.

Our condolences to you and your family.

My son, Jay, was a current student in her Science 8 class and my daughter had her a few years back. It is the only class my son had an "A" in and my daughter has gone on to take advanced Chemistry and Physics in high school so she can pursue a science degree in college.

The Science 8 students were just getting ready to present their Rube Goldberg inventions and I'm saddened that she will not be able to see the smiles on their faces as they explain what they have built. It was a wonderful way to get kids to understand the flow of energy and got my son jazzed as he tested and retested his contraption.

Her smile and positive encouragement created a loving environment that allowed all kids to blossom and find the joy in science.

My family was blessed to have had her as a teacher. She will not be forgotten.

Dr. Foster: My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time. My deepest sympathy!

Myna will be sorely missed. She was a caring teacher, very student oriented, and it was evident to all that she loved teaching. Always with a smile, I have fond memories of her going back and forth classrooms in the science hall, working with her students as they were taking data for the CO2 car races in the hall! Each year she would always lend me her lab coat for a class simulation I did. I so enjoyed hearing about her travel adventures with Nadine Wright! God called her home and I can envision Him saying to her "job well done, my faithful servant."

My sincerest condolences to the Foster family.

Sincerely,
Roberta Ricci, Cooper Teacher Alumni

I was privileged to know Myrna through my sister, who taught with her at Cooper. She was more like a member of our family. The wonderful legacy she leaves will, I hope, in time soften the pain.

Myrna was a strong yet gentle soul with a warmth and spirit that shined through to reach everyone who knew her. There was a special manner that she was blessed with that allowed her to be open and compassionate with others while showing respect for their capacity to be their own person. This is a unique character trait that is instilled and nurtured in ones family and carried forward in life to bless students, friends, family and everyone who came in contact with her. She will be remembered always as a gift that God allowed us to embrace for such a short time, but that time was wonderful and each of us are better because we knew Myrna. ( Wynton Marsalis never knew what he missed! :)

Thank you for your enthusiasm in teaching Science -my son looked forward to having you as his first class of the day. Last Thursday he wondered if he should finish his Science assignment after he learned of your passing. He decided with tears I his eyes "that Ms.Foster would like him to do it". That says it ALL. You will be missed.
