Was in FHS Band 66-70, when Mr. Simpson came to us in '68. Was an immediate and positive influence on the program. I remember him most for his work with us in the stage band. Some of the best memories of those years. Thanks to you, Mr. Simpson. Deepest condolences to the family.

I was a music theory student under Mr. Simpson in 1969-70. He was great and a hard teacher. Loved it. I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. Thinking of the family and bands. He touched so many lives. His legacy lives on.

I had Mr. Simpson as a Band Director from the 6th grade at Grassland Elementary through High School at Franklin High. He was bigger than life and thou at times could seem very intimidating, was truly a kind and funny guy. I will always remember him and my times in Band. He was a true leader and wonderful Band director. I wish his family my heart felt condolences.

Mr. Simpson ranks as one of the most influential men in my life. In the sixth grade he took time early in the mornings to teach me how to play an instrument and was my band director for the next six years at Northside JH until I graduated from FHS in 1983. He even came to some of my college concerts. Over the years I have found myself repeating many of his life-lesson sayings: "Its just as easy to be on time as it is to be late." He cared for what really mattered in band -- giving youth a positive experience. The best times I had as a teenager were connected with the FHS band and I am very thankful that Mr. Simpson will always be a part of my life.

Mr. Simpson was a great influence in helping me learn to compose during my years with him in the band, and I credit him for helping to set my career path, as a result. I know he had a positive influence on many others, too. I can still affectionately hear his words ringing in my ears as a spacey kid, "Son, what world are you in?!" -- Dr. Michael Kurek, Professor of Music Composition, Vanderbilt University
