BYRD, Paula Sherrill Marks Passed away on April 27, 2012. Sherrill was born May 3, 1949 in El Dorado, Arkansas. The daughter of the late Lewis Russell Marks and Marjorie Anne Marks both of El Dorado, Arkansas. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Hugh Hunter Byrd and her two sons, Nelson Meriwether Byrd and Hudson Thomas Byrd, all of Charleston, Missouri. She attended Sweet Briar College, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Arkansas, where, in 1972, she graduated with a double major in English and French. After college she took a position at 1st American National Bank in Nashville, Tennessee where she managed their foreign currency accounts. Sherrill was an active member of the Tri Delta Sorority, the Molly French Garden Club of Charleston, The Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Friends of the South Cumberland, Friends of Warner Parks and Cheekwood. In addition, she had a great love and was an avid supporter of the University of the South where her two sons attended college. Many of her summers were spent at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly where she served as treasurer and head of Horton Dining Hall. Sherrill had a great fondness for the Cumberland Plateau and truly cherished her time spent with friends atop the Mountain. Above all, she demonstrated a tireless attitude as a mother and fought a difficult condition with fierce determination for many years. Services in her memory will be held at 2 p.m., May 4, 2012, at the Chapel of the Apostles located at 335 Tennessee Avenue in Sewanee, Tennessee on the campus of the University of the South followed by a graveside service at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly Cemetery off Warren's Point Road. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, The Webb School, or the University of the South. Sherrill has been a valued customer of my little home repair business for a number of years. More than customer, she was a friend whose quiet determination in the face of serious health issues has been an inspiration to me and, I'm sure, to many others. I am grateful for the blessing of her friendship.
