When I was chief political writer for The Nashville Banner, part of my beat was the Tennessee Supreme Court. I worked daily with Ramsey and he was very helpful to me in finding out when the major high court decisions were going to be released. He was also very helpful in helping me understand the impact and importance of the decisions. When I was named managing editor of The Nashville Banner, Ramsey took me to lunch to celebrate. He was a wonderful and kind gentlemen, very knowledgeable in the law and a pleasure to know. Ramsey's family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Bracey Campbell, Centerville, TN.

When I was licensed in 1965, no one was more helpful to young lawyers than Ramsey. For just one example, back then clerks were able to grant extensions of time to file briefs and, if the applicant had a decent reason, Ramsey was always generous. He was a great gentleman and public servant.

When I was introduced to the Supreme Court in 1974, my father in law, Judge Wm. (Bud) Harwell, took me into Mr. Leathers office and introduced me to him. Judge Harwell told me that "Mr. Clerk" might be the most important man in the state judiciary, and most certainly was the most considerate and helpful. I found that to be unfailingly true. Mr. Leathers was the kind of lawyer we all wish to be, a servant of his profession of which he was so proud. Tennessee will miss him.

My wife and I were privileged to be married in the chambers of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mr. Leathers was the one who facilitated that and intervened when the Court of Appeals subsequently decided it wanted to hold court at our chosen time and date. I later got to know him in the Economic Club (nee Exchange Club). He was a fine man and noble public servant. May he rest in peace.

Raymond,
I'm sorry I can't be there with you my brother. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Both of your parents were a big part of our growing up and going to school together as was Mike's and mine. We based a lot of our mischief decisions on what Ramsey & Ardis, Gerald & Norma and Doug & Betty would do to us if we got caught. They all have been a great and positive influence in our lives. We will remember and love them forever! Stay strong my friend.
