When men say "he is a great guy" it is the highest compliment they can make. It means he is, great to be around, a gentleman, honest, straight forward, someone you can count on, modest, smart, well read and well bred, interesting, fair and reasonable, competent and someone with whom you can enjoy a good bottle of wine.
Mike was a great guy. I will miss him.

I will miss Mike greatly! He was one of the people in Birmingham that introduced me to wine and made it such an enlightening experience that it is an integral part of my life! Cheers to our friend Mike and all those "stinky socks" bottles!

I had the privilege and honor of having Mike as a colleague and a dear friend while at Vaughan Regional in Selma, Al. from 2003-6.
He was a hard-worker, a committed employee and a wonderful listener. He and I had talked recently and I had hoped to have him visit me in Florida. I am very saddened by his death and will keep him in my prayers.

What a complete shock! Mike was a good friend and fellow wine lover. He was always proactive in helping with wine events and sharing with others. He was contageously gregarious, with a hardy laugh and a big smile on his face. He will be sorely missed.

I had Mike (Coach Greene) as a home room teacher and advisor in the
Student Government Assoc. at Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg TN from 1971-1972. Then our paths crossed again in !974 as fellow students at Samford Univ. School of Pharmacy. i am very sorry to hear of his death.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family and many friends, especially to his daughter Jocelyn. I had the privilege of being with them in Oregon a few years back for an International Pinot Noir Celebration. They both made this one very special. "Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy." Rest in peace, Mike...you will be greatly missed.

Losing Mike so soon after Thom is doubly painful and surrealistic. I have great memories of 25-30 years in which Mike was part of my life. He always opened his home to everyone, and he hosted innumerable, wonderful parties at his home. I never visited family and friends in Birmingham without seeing him, usually at a dinner that he hosted. He could be depended upon to offer anything in his wine cellar, and created wonderful dishes in which to indulge. His wide smile was completely engaging, and his laugh would make Santa Claus envious. He was so vital and full of life, I can't quite grasp yet that he's gone. I'll never think of Bastille Day the same, but will celebrate his life on that, his birthday. My heart goes out to his family and all of us, his friends.
