Sean Roche was one of the best Marine infantry officers I have known. We met as 2nd Lieutenants at 3d LAR. He was in an adjacent company and I remember looking up to him because he was tough, tactically proficient, but mostly because he connected with his men and he had their absolute respect. His men loved him. It's a small Corps and you bump into Marines all the time who know the same people. He was loved by his men because he pushed them, made them better and was selfless. As time went on I was not surprised that he was, again, universally admired and respected for his leadership at Alpha 1/4 and at the many other units where he served. He was one of our very best and will be missed. There is no telling the amount of lives he touched and how many men he made better through his toughness, example and character. He also brought a lot of young men home from some tough places. As Marines we are indebted to him always and thankful to have served beside him. He was a good friend and was a Warrior. I can still see him talking to a Marine and addressing him affectionately as "Warrior" in my mind right now. He was special. I am writing this with a heavy heart because I know he is being buried at Arlington National Cemetery today. My prayers and thoughts are with him, his family, his friends and the legions of Marines who loved the man. Semper Fidelis, Luke McConnell

You live on forever with me and everyone you ever worked with or befriended. I look forward to the day when I can tell Teague how amazing a friend, leader, warrior, and man his father was and how he served as an example to so many that knew him. I am looking forward to seeing you again my brother. Semper Fidelis.

I offer my sincerest condolences to your Family. Sean had such an unknown impact on my life as I remember him at my parents pool before he enlisted, not swimming but working out to get ready for the Marines. That memory always stuck with me and became a HUGE motivating factor for myself enlisting in the Marines. Sean's memory will live on through us all, till Valhalla Brother.

RIP Sean, taken from this life so soon. Many years had passed since you were in Ireland, but when you were here visiting with Aunt Carmel, Uncle Mort & Breada, great memories were made. It is sad that we never got the opportunity to meet as adults. We grow up so quick and though your life was short, you left a great mark. You gave great service to your country, and through your actions and leadership you made an impact and difference to the lives of so many more people. We were so proud of your achievements throughout your career, your passing has taken a piece of us too. Heartfelt sympathy to Aubrey & Teague, Aunt Carmel, Uncle Mort & Breada. Thinking of you all at this incredibly sad time and I pray that our prayers will bring you comfort.
From Joe & Teresa Morrissey and family.

Sean Roche was one of the first officers I'd ever worked with and not for. That was his leadership style. He placed special trust and confidence in his subordinates. My fondest memory of Sean was a beach land in Thailand on May 12, 2000. I remember that day because it was my birthday. I told no one it was my birthday. Sean Roch gathered the Marines on the beach and presented me with a birthday MRE poundcake. Best cake I ever had! Semper Fidelis my friend. My deepest condolences to the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I will always remember Sean's love of life, inspiring charisma, and complete and utter selfless devotion to his fellow Marines. Sean was a true Leader of Men, and inspired me to do and be the best I could. His unflappable persona and steady confidence showed an inner strength and courage to which we all gravitated. I will never forget Sean and the impact he had on my life. Your memory will live on as a part of all the Marines who had the honor and privilege of serving with you. I will pray everyday for his wife and son that the Lord give them strength and peace, and I hope that one day I can tell them in person what their husband and father meant to me. Semper Fidelis, Brother.
