Shelby H. Spencer, age 79, passed away on May 12, 2016 from an extended illness. She was born on February 28, 1937, in Cookeville, TN.
Shelby attended Cookeville Central High School. After high school she worked for the local phone company until she met her husband of 34 years, George T. Spencer. They settled in their permanent home, built on the family farm in the Union Hill area. Shelby retired from Bell South with over 30 years of service.
She and George were heavily involved in the start-up of the local park in Joelton, McDowell Park, spending many hours there. Later in life, Shelby's passion was fishing at their fish camp in Springville, Tennessee, with her dear friends, Jean and Jim Hallman.
Shelby was preceded in death by her husband George T. Spencer, her son, Dwayne T. Spencer, her parents, John and Myrtle Helms, and her sister, Inez Stewart. She is survived by her brother Roy (Ann) Helms; daughter Teresa (Tim) Vaden and son Randy (Cynthia) Spencer; grandchildren Heather Goodman, Mycah Vaden, Matt (Jessica) Vaden, Josh Spencer, and Katy Spencer; and great-grandchildren, Laylah Goodman, Jonah Vaden, and Spencer Lee.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 15th and 10:00am until the hour of service at 2:00pm on Monday, May 16th at Anderson and Garrett Funeral Home, Bro. David Royalty officiating. Interment to follow at Joelton Hills Cemetery.

I have fond memories of Shelby. She and George would go fishing and she would have a fish fry for us ( Tellers South Central Bell). Family, you are in my prayers.

Mrs. Shelby was my Supervisor at BellSouth for many years. She was the best Supervisor I ever had. She took care of her people. She went over and beyond her call of duty. We had a lot of fun outside smoking and talking about everything under the sun. She was a precious lady.
