Extending our sincerest sympathy to the family of Dr. Wolff.
Dr. Wolff treated me for Leukemia in 1986 at Vanderbilt, and to this day I recall many of the encouraging things he said to me! He made an unbelievable and lasting impression on me and my family, who came over from Germany to be with me.
I stayed in touch with Dr. Wolff for many years afterwards, tho he finally declared me 'cured'. I was told that he enjoyed my annual Christmas cards!
The world sure was a much better place with Dr. Wolff still here. He will be missed so very much!

Dr. Wolff was the epitome of an intellectual. He was also wise, kind, and notably : approachable despite his lofty achievements. In my eyes ,as a green third year medical student, the above qualities made him a hero. He always will be. Dr. Wolff personified the term " Class Act."

Dr. Wolff's passing is such a loss for so many. He was so passionate about providing the best possible care for underserved and poor cancer patients and his reach was huge. Not only did the patients he saw in person benefit, but so did many others through his research activities and his teaching and mentoring of other faculty and of medical students. His enthusiasm was contagious. He was smart and funny and crammed every minute of everyday with life. He assembled an amazing team of people to provide cutting-edge compassionate care to those who were lacking in resources in other aspects of their life. Steve, I promise, we won't let you down.

Hello Barbara and family,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Wolff's passing. I did not realize he was so gravely ill. When he gave me a chance to make a living by hiring me right out of college to work in the bone marrow processing lab, it meant the world to me! Despite being the Chief of Stem Cell Transplant, he was always so humble, funny, kind, and supportive. He knew I was naturally a bit too serious about life. I remember how he would lighten my attitude by walking though the lab singing a silly little tune like, "I am stuck on band-aids cause band-aids stuck on me." When he left Vanderbilt in 2001 I couldn't help but cry. I knew it would never be the same around here. Today I am crying again. The world has lost a genuinely good soul. Athough I know your hearts must be breaking, you must be so very proud to know that your husband, your father, left such a positive impact on this world. He helped so many people have a few more good days! May God bless you all and ease your grief. You will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead.
