Bill was a truly excellent surgeon and friend. I have so many great memories of him in both the medical arena and social settings. I just learned of his passing and sorry I could not say this in person. Know that my prayers are with you Francis, Bill Jr and Diane, Mary Francis, Sarah and Bub. His legacy as a surgeon, father and contributions in so many other ways will always be a testament to his life. He enriched my life and be forever missed by me.

Bill Edwards was a unique and outstanding surgeon. No one in Nashville could manage a patient with a ruptured abdominal aneurysm as skillfully and successfully as he did. But beyond his surgical skills he made many worthy contributions to the management of St Thomas Hospital and to the teaching program for younger surgeons. I admired him greatly and we will all miss him.

Dr Edwards was the most prolific vascular surgeon in my memory... a great technical teacher to surgical residents and fellows...& a leader from an established surgical family in Nashville. His mark in surgery is indelibly made.

Dr. Edwards was a customer of mine at Milam Optical Service in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Over time, I grew to admire him greatly and was deeply moved one Thanksgiving , when a Greenberg Smoked Turkey sent by he and Mrs. Edwards arrived at my house.
Their generosity meant the world to my wife and I, and reminded me of how important it is to think of others and try and lift the spirits of those around you.
Thank you Dr. Edwards , it was a lesson Iearned !!

Our sympathy to Mrs. Edwards and his family.

I am so thankful for the time "The Big E" and Frances came to Vanderbilt Medical Center where I really got to know them. He taught me so much in such a short period of time. The valuable lessons will last a lifetime for me. I remember asking him if he thought I was a Type A personality and he just laughed and said I was a AAA! Even though I have not seen him in a long while, I continue to have very fond memories.
