William Tankard Obituary

William Tyler Tankard

Aiken, SC

William Tyler Tankard, 31, of Aiken, SC, died along with his loyal Boston Terrier, Chewy, and three of his polo ponies in a traffic accident on I-76 in Ohio on July 30, while hauling 10 of his horses.

Born in Nashville, polo was in Will's blood as his father and mother loved horses and exposed him to the sport from an early age. Polo would become a passion for Will at every stage of his life, not only as a talented player but also as an accomplished horse trainer and rider.

Will is survived by his mother, Katherine "Cissie" Jones Snow of Aiken, SC; father, Bill Tankard of Nashville; brother, Jason Melson of Huntsville, AL; beloved partner, Samira Waernlund; and his faithful string of polo ponies.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, August 27, at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation with a reception to follow.

Donations to help with the recovery of his horses can be made at facebook.com/rememberwill and tax deductible donations should be made to AIPF, 12300 S. Shore Blvd., Suite 218, Wellington, FL 33414.

My heart aches for your family. I did not know Will, but I am blessed to know Bill and Terry as fellow parishioners of St. Patrick Church. I have no doubt that Will was a fine and faith-filled gentleman like his father. May your faith and the loving support of friends strengthen you at this time of grief.

In Christ,
Katherine Le Croy
