Barney Flora Obituary

Barney Scott Flora, 89, of Tetonia, Idaho, peacefully passed away on December 3, 2024, with his beloved wife and soulmate, Bobbie Flora, by his side.

Born in Harrah, Washington, in 1935, Barney graduated from Richland High School and went on to earn a degree in Economics from Central Washington State College. His professional journey began as an engineer at Boeing, transitioning to a distinguished career in nuclear engineering with Exxon Nuclear, Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and Rocky Flats.

A man of many talents and interests, Barney embraced life with enthusiasm and love. He found joy in fly-fishing, home construction, and remodeling, building his own retirement home in Tetonia with meticulous care and a deep sense of satisfaction. A "gentleman farmer," he delighted in tending to his ranch and farm while cherishing his connection to the land and its creatures. Barney's love for the outdoors was unmatched, and he reveled in sharing it with his family, whether fishing, skiing, or embarking on family vacations to Mexico, Puerto Rico, and across the West Coast.

Barney's curiosity and passion extended to Native American history and archaeology, pursuits that reflected his deep appreciation for the world's rich heritage. As a private pilot, he shared his love of aviation with his brother-in-law, Ed Hoey, creating cherished memories aloft.

Above all, Barney treasured his family. Holidays and vacations together were the highlights of his life, where his love, laughter, and adventurous spirit inspired those around him.

Barney leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and a life well-lived. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Barney is survived by his devoted wife, Bobbie Flora; his children, Cari Lynn Roy and Jeffery Scott Flora; his stepson, Ryan Cook; and his grandchildren, Kendra Clark, Tyler (TJ) Roy, Dustin Roy, Zak Flora, and Chase Flora. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Krueger. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Flora; his sister, Carolyn Hoey; and his brother, Richard Flora.

A celebration of Barney's life will be held at Jeff Flora's home is Pasco, Washington on June 14, 2025. If you are interested in attending, RSVP to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Paws Shelter in Driggs, ID (pawshelpspets.com, 208-354-3499).

I remember Barney from Exxon Nuclear. I hired on as a fuel design engineer in 1979, Barney had been there a while then, and I worked directly with him. He was a designer, a good natured man with a sense of humor. I remember hearing stories of him and a handful of executives rocketing around the country to see customers and rep our product, in a motor home that had the old Exxon stripe set painted on it. Adventure, as I recall it. Sorry to hear of Barney's passing. It brought back some good memories.
