David Kline Obituary

David B. Kline, age 73, of Painted Post, NY died Monday, November 6, 2017 in Painted Post.

Dave was born on May 15, 1944 in Elmira, NY to Robert and Marion (Plympton) Kline. He grew up in Canandaigua. Dave joined the army in 1962 and served as a medic during the Vietnam war. After completing his tour, he served as a medical officer in the US Coast Guard. Dave received his nursing certification from Monroe Community and continued his education at Empire State College where he earned his RN and a business degree. While living in the Rochester area he continued to help the servicemen as a nurse at several VA hospitals. Dave also started a homecare company, Safe Care. After moving to Seattle, Washington, he owned a Medical recruiting company. Dave returned home to New York for his retirement years.

Dave loved flying planes, travel, photography, and fishing, and was always ready for a new experience. He was both an avid reader and a tireless storyteller. He was also a believer in people, he wanted to know them, hear their stories, interact with them. He was always quick to help anyone, however he could. David described himself as an "opinionated left leaning liberal" and was known to his online followers as the guy with the hat, Citizen Kline. Dave was an active and supportive member of Alcoholics Anonymous and celebrated 43 years sober in September.

He is survived by three children, Jason Kline of Victor, NY; David (Marsden) Kline, II of Westport, CT; Dr. Emily (Ganesh) Speelmon of Dayton, OH; his loving companion, Jackie Carpenter of Painted Post, NY; sister: Rita O'Neil of Canandaigua, NY; granddaughters, Halliwell and Addison Kline; nephews, Mike Reed and Patrick Reed; several other nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his brother, Robert; and sisters, Sheila, and Jane.

Dave insisted that he lived a full and happy life, he didn't get cheated one bit.

Memorial donations may be made in Dave's name to Corning Community Food Pantry, PO Box 1255, Corning, NY 14830.

Dave's family has entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.

I've been blessed with Dave's friendship for about 37 years, and have never gotten together with him that I didn't laugh uproariously at some point during our meeting. Either that, or he got me thinking about something in a totally new way that stretched my brain a little and still made me laugh. I think we would all be surprised to know the actual number of people Dave has helped over the years, and I will miss him greatly. He was one of my favorite "instigators", and I mean that in only the kindest way. I pray that his friends and family may find the acceptance and love - ironically, two of his greatest strengths, - that will help us all to deal with his absence. He would probably love it if we continued to share our stories about him whenever we are together.

Dave was an amazing person! His loss will be felt throughout the community in ways that will turn the head! Now his three siblings have another person in their heavenly clan to help watch over their families. They were all great family people who would do anything to help people! Guess they were raised very well! RIP Uncle Dave! You will never be forgotten!
