Philip Wood Obituary

Philip A. Wood, age 65 of South Corning, New York passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 14th, 2019 at home. He was born on February 20th, 1954 in Wellsboro, PA to Marion Wood and Lynn Morris. He married Terry Wood (Foley) on December 27th, 1986.

Philip worked for Corning Inc. for 42 years retiring in 2016. He was a kind and loving man; the best friend anyone could ask for. He had a good-natured personality and was a loving and devoted husband. He enjoyed taking long walks with his wife.

He grew up in Pikeville, Kentucky and later moved to Little Marsh, Pennsylvania where he lived on a farm which caused him to have a life-long love of nature and animals. Philip enjoyed being around children and was fortunate to spend one of his last days at the Zoo with his wife and best friend's granddaughter, Allison.

Philip is survived by his wife, Terry; mother and step father: Lynn ( Reed) Anderson of Pikeville, KY; children: Andrea Boyce of Wellsboro, PA, Matthew Wood of NJ; sisters: Deborah Gilliam of Big Flats, Fonda (Ronald) Bronson of Erwin; brothers: Jeffery (Anne) Anderson of KY, Nathan Anderson of KY, along with several nieces and nephews.

Philip was predeceased by his father, Marion Wood and a brother, Charles Wood.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St. Corning, NY on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 1:00pm with Pastor Scott Towner officiating.

Such a kind and honest man, Woody will be
missed by many. Only knowing and working with him for the past 15 years I am certain he was as genuine away from work as he was at Erwin. Take care and save me a seat at the table!

Ahhh... Phil, my sweetest brother-n-law. You left us far too soon, but I do appreciate that you were there to welcome mom when she passed a few days later. That was your way, to extend a helping hand, a warm smile, or a kind gesture. You were a ROCK for mom when she needed help, her go-to man, someone that could be counted on.
For me, I'll remember your smile, your positive energy, your warm heart, your thoughtful generosity and the man that loved my sister for 32 yrs.
Saturday I will meet the people that loved you, that liked you, and worked with you. I know you will be there too. Rattle a chain, knock on a wall, move things about to let us know you are there. Watch over my sister and wash her in your love to make her aware that you are always present. There were times when you had a twinkle of playful mischief in your eyes, make it count now. Have at it, it will be so cool!
In your physical form we knew you as Phil, Philip Wood, Woody, a good guy, a great human being. Now you are in your non-physical form a part of pure love, you are love, the everything and the nothing. Your eyes are open and you can see the grander plan, you Know All and Be All. No doubt you will feel right at home. Though it makes little sense from our perspective that you left this earthly plane so soon for a life, I know you followed the light that took you Home. Welcome home Phil! Love, Sue

Ahhh... Phil, My sweetest brother-n-law. You left us much too soon, but I do appreciate you being there in the non-physical waiting for mom to join you a few days later. That was your way, always extending the helping hand, a warm smile, a kind word, or thoughtful gesture. In recent years, you were a rock for mom, taking care, with kind attention to all the things she needed.
For me, I will remember the smile, the positive energy, and the man that loved my sister for 32 yrs. Come Saturday I'm going to see all the people that loved you, liked you, and worked with you. I know you'll be there too, appreciating the thoughtfulness of all those people, from a place of pure love that you are part of now.
Rattle a chain, knock on a wall, move things about to let us know you are near. Look over my sister and wash her in your love, she will appreciate knowing you are still around, though no longer in your physical form. That physical form we came to know as Phil, Philip Wood, Woody, a good guy, one of a kind, best guy EVER, will be missed. I know you are only a thought away and I will think of you often. Love, Sue
