William Cassidy Jr. Obituary

Painted Post | William M. "Bill" Cassidy, Jr., age 73, of Painted Post passed peacefully Wednesday morning, August 26, 2015. Bill was born in November 1941 at Corning Hospital to William and Isabel (Illig) Cassidy, Sr.

He graduated from Corning Free Academy and went on to major in accounting at Niagara University. Bill and Margaret (Peg) Nelson were married in May of 1966, at St. Patrick's Church in Corning.

Throughout his life, Bill took pride in giving back to the community through his many volunteer efforts with various organizations including the St. Vincents/All Saints Choir, All Saints Finance
Committee, Painted Post Board of Trade, Colonial Days Executive Committee and Treasurer, Corning Chamber of Commerce and serving as a 30-year volunteer with the LPGA Corning Classic tournament. In addition to his volunteer work, Bill enjoyed his Wednesday night bowling, rooting on his beloved NY Yankees, as well as, attending and supporting local theater and philharmonic events. He was a member of the Corning Elks Chapter, served in the US Army Reserves and served on the Board for the Elmira/Corning Chapter of the National Association
of Accounts/IMA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peg; sons, Michael (Jamie Stryker) Cassidy of Morriston, FL, John (Amy) Cassidy of Penfield, NY; sister, Virginia Witt of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Alexa and Thomas; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 28th from 5 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 29th at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning with Father John Forni officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to All Saints Parish or the American Diabetes Association.

I'm so sorry Peg. I remember you and Bill from our younger days and all the things he participated in. Our paths crossed often. maybe he and John are checking the Patterson Inn books.. You are in my prayers.
