HARVEYS LAKE — Samuel M. Wolfe, III, of Harveys Lake, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at Commonwealth Health Systems Hospital, due to complications of COVID-19.
Born in 1946, he was the son of the late Samuel Melville Wolfe, Jr. and the late Jean Kelley Wolfe.
He began his education at Wyoming Seminary and earned a BA in history from Wilkes College. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he joined his father in the property management and real estate business, eventually becoming one of the most well-respected residential appraisers in the area. His keen eye for valuation was unparalleled.
Sam was one of those rare unforgettables. He would often walk into a room full of strangers and leave with a room full of friends. He possessed an uncanny ability to see right through to a person's true intentions and act accordingly, though he rarely made people feel judged or awkward. His laughter and wit were unmatched, as were his intelligence and worldly knowledge of any and every subject. He was often (always) the first person that his family and friends sought out for guidance on any number of topics.
Sam was rarely idle, whether professionally or socially. He was a member of the Luzerne County Association of Realtors, Pennsylvania Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors for over 50 years, where he was honored with the status of Realtor Emeritus.
Sam was proud to serve as Commander of American Legion Post 967 (Harveys Lake), as well as on the General Municipal Authority of Harveys Lake. He was a longtime member of both the Westmoreland Club and The Pennsylvania Society.
Sam was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 442, Jaycees International Senate, Imperial Council of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters Court 154 (director, current), Loyal Order of Buffaloes, Greater WB Chamber of Commerce (director, 1977 to 1980), Sports Car Club of America and Community Advisory Board of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucinda Wolfe Hughes. He leaves behind his devoted and beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy Frushon Wolfe, son Samuel M. (Beau) Wolfe IV, daughter Lauren Elizabeth Wolfe and his ever-faithful dogs, Maddie, Bobby and Blue.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Sam's memory to American Legion Post 967, Blue Chip Animal Rescue, PSPCA, or any other animal rescue organization of the donor's choice.
Friends may call for a walk-through visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. Please note, CDC restrictions apply. A celebration of Sam's life will be held in warmer weather. He hated the cold.
By the way, Dad, your wings were not on backward. We just weren't quite ready to let you fly away.

Dear Nancy and family,
Scot and I are very sad about Sam's passing. I first met Sam when he was about ten or eleven. I remember him from our days in Glen Summit and was thrilled to reconnect with him when we moved to the Lake. Sam was a great guy with a great smile and will be greatly missed. Fondly, Scott and Daylene Burnside

Dear Nancy,
I am saddened to hear of the loss of Sammy. Such fond memories growing up next door to him and his family. We had fun holidays together, ski outings and much more.
Mom and Dad (Corky and Mike) treated him like an older brother.
During my last 2 visits to WB over the past few years, Henry and I have stayed at the B and B. ( the old homestead) I still remembered how to run the elevator!!!
Henry and I are sending you tons of love at this time of loss.
Hugs all around
