Donald LeBlanc Obituary

Donald James LeBlanc, Sr.

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Donald James LeBlanc, Sr., age 85, who died on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Entombment will be in St. John Mausoleum.

Reverend Patrick Broussard, Associate Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Kathleen LeBlanc. Giftbearers will be six of his granddaughters. Karen Broussard, organist, will sing for the services.

Mr. LeBlanc was born in Nina, Louisiana on May 9, 1931. He was a graduate of Cecelia High School and SLI, earning a Bachelor of Science in education. He later received a Masters plus 30 at LSU. He proudly served his country as a member of the Louisiana National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a kind, gentle, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him.

A resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Don was an avid golfer and horse-racing enthusiast. He was a voracious reader who also loved to travel and spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. One way Don expressed his love for others was by sharing his home-grown oranges, satsumas, and vegetables, as well as his home-made pickles and fig preserves. He was a life-long educator who taught math at Cecelia High and Comeaux High, and finished his career as an assistant principal at Northside High. After his retirement in the mid 1980's, Don and his beloved wife, Aggie, regularly spent 3 nights a week dancing to Cajun and Big Band music.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Agnes Marie Hamilton LeBlanc; three daughters, Melanie Marie Farzam, and her husband Farnam, Julie Ann Guidry and her husband Todd, and Nancy Elizabeth Reynolds; five sons, Donald James LeBlanc, Jr. and his wife Christine, Stuart John LeBlanc, Frank Charles LeBlanc and his wife, Patricia "Patti", Edward Joseph LeBlanc and his wife Cassie, and Phillip Thomas LeBlanc; fourteen grandchildren, Rami LeBlanc, Sophie Farzam-Shirley and her husband Brett, Sarah Farzam, Andrew LeBlanc, Sydney Guidry, James LeBlanc and his wife Carmen, Clint LeBlanc and his fiancée Jordan Anderson, Sawyer LeBlanc, Rebecca Goebel and her husband Joe, Sam Reynolds, Hannah LeBlanc, Ben Reynolds, Katy Guidry, and Paul Guidry; three sisters, Florence LeBlanc Broussard, Lena LeBlanc Martin and her husband Jim, and Kathleen LeBlanc and her husband Dewey Burke.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joel LeBlanc and the former Adele Berard, and one brother, Floyd LeBlanc.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Andrew LeBlanc, James LeBlanc, Clint LeBlanc, Sawyer LeBlanc, Sam Reynolds, Ben Reynolds, and Paul Guidry.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home by Brady LeBlanc.
