Donald A. Melancon
Lafayette - Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church for Donald A. Melancon, age 76, who passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Aaron Melancon, pastor of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church and St. Benedict the Moor Church, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Melancon was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette. He retired from S.J. Montgomery Elementary School and later retired from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette after twenty years of employment.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta Melancon of Lafayette; one son, Rev. Aaron Melancon of Duson; one daughter, Adrienne Melancon-Angelle and her husband, Morgan, of Lafayette; one step-son, Julius Ceasar of Abbeville; two step-daughters, Lucretta Ceasar and Jessica Ceasar both of Lafayette; his mother, Thelma Joseph Melancon of Lafayette; three brothers, Errol Melancon and his wife, Margie, of Houston, TX, Freddie Melancon and Simon Melancon and his wife, Janice, all of Lafayette; two sisters, Verlie Trotter and her husband, Walter, and Linda Reynolds and her husband, Anthony, all of Lafayette; three brothers-in-law, Louis Deville, Sr. and his wife, Shirley, of Lake Charles, Chester Batiste and Lionel Batiste and his wife, Brenda, all of Lafayette; six sisters-in-law, Paulette Melancon of Lafayette, Barbara Joseph and her husband, Gary, of TN, Patsy Alexander of St. Martinville, Linda Batiste and Laura Ledet both of Lafayette, and Mara Deville of Lake Charles; three grandchildren, Juliette Angelle, Jaden Angelle and Barron Taylor; four step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louella Batiste Melancon; his father, Wilbert Melancon; two brothers, Lynn Michael Melancon and John Wilbert Melancon; three brothers-in-law, Wilbert Deville, Sr., Arthur Batiste and Carlton Batiste; and two sisters-in-law, Kelly Christopher and Juliet Batiste.
A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Jaden Angelle, Julius Ceasar, Kirk Melancon, Anthony Reynold, Erick Batiste and Glenn Bonnet. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Joseph, Errol Melancon, Freddie Melancon, Simon Melancon, Louis Deville, Sr., Morgan Angelle, Murphy Broussard, Chester and Lionel Batiste, Jerry Alexander and Barron Taylor.
