Fernand Latour Obituary

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Fernand "Peco" Latour, Jr., age 83, who passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at his residence in Carencro.
Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Mire, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Latour was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro. He was a sixty-year member of I.B.E.W. (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). He was a member of the American Quarter Horse and Paint Horse Associations. Mr. Latour enjoyed raising cattle and horses. He was a former breeder and owner of racehorses and enjoyed going to Evangeline Downs. Mr. Latour was a parishioner of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Mire.
Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Sadie Latour, of Carencro; one son, Scott Latour and his wife, Claudette, of Carencro; one daughter, Mitzie Nepveux and her husband, Aaron "Jay", of Carencro; two grandchildren, Rene Latour Broussard and her husband, David, and Joshua Nepveux, all of Carencro; four brothers, Simon Latour of Lafayette, Malcom Latour and his wife, Nelda, of Mississippi, Patrick Latour and his wife, Angi, of Metairie and Jimmy James Latour and his wife, Linda, of Lake Charles; and one sister, Rita Latour of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernand Latour, Sr. and the former Mathilde Clavelle, both natives of Lafayette; and one brother, Carlton Latour.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
Memorial contributions in the name of Fernand Latour, Jr. may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnson St. Ste 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
Pallbearers will be Damon Vincent, Jay Nepveux, Dana Hebert, David Broussard, Jimmy Latour and Kenneth Latour. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Latour and Simon Latour.

May he rest in peace. I remember when I helped him load a field of hay when I was very young. Several hours of work for $1. A very good lesson in working and the value of a dollar. I will never forget that.
