CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Harry John "Duke" Holloway, Sr., age 86, who passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at 6:59 p.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Michael Arnaud, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Holloway was a native of Rayne and a resident of Lafayette for over sixty years. He was employed as an insurance manager for Southern National Life Insurance Company and United Insurance Company of America for over thirty years. After retirement, his passion was raising gamecocks. Mr. Holloway was a jack of all trades, if you were a family member, he probably worked on your car. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and was a member of Franciscan Brothers Cursillo and did volunteer ministry at prisons. Mr. Holloway was a veteran of the military having served in the United States Army during WWII.

Survivors include two sons, Skipper Holloway and his wife, Sandy, of Thibodaux, and Darrel Holloway and his wife, Debbie, of Biloxi, MS; three daughters, Linda Holloway Bienvenu and her husband, George, of Rayne, Cheryle Holloway Windham and her husband, Jarrett, of Church Point, and Rachel Holloway Hebert of Church Point; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and several godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty eight years, the former Nellie Jane Mire; his parents, Jacques Holloway and the former Ozeia Cormier, both natives of Rayne; two brothers, Calvin Holloway and Leroy Holloway; and two sisters, Gussie Holloway Mire and Pearl Holloway Brasseaux.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Skipper Holloway, Heath Mire, Beau Hebert, Shay Holloway, Seth Holloway and Evan Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrel Holloway, Tommy Holloway and Huey Mire.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Home Health, Thrifty Way Pharmacy on Moss St and the members and staff of Lafayette General Medical Center 5th floor, especially Dr. Kenneth McCarron.
