Larry Early Obituary

Larry S. Early

NEW IBERIA - Larry S. Early ("Moe"), 80, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 4, 2013 in his home after a short battle with cancer.

Moe was born October 8, 1933 in Chillicothe, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly in the 82nd Airborne in the Korean War. He retired in 1988, after a 24 year career with Sante Fe Drilling, now TransOcean. He spent many of his years of retirement growing in faith. He also utilized his creative nature, building and then giving away, custom birdhouses, doghouses and anything else he thought might bring joy to family or friends. He was a giving man, who brought laughter to all who were around him.

Moe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. What meant the most to Moe was his family. Having them all together was his greatest joy. He will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sue Early; one sister, Lucy Morris; five children, Gary Early and wife, Mindy Early, David Early and wife, Marilyn Early, Tim Early and wife, Desireé Early, Kristi McCauley and husband, Tim McCauley, and Missy Early; eleven grandchildren, Brandi Vargas and husband Omar Vargas, Kendal Ferritti and husband, Gary Ferritti, Ben Early and wife, Misty Early, Tobie Fontenot and husband, Ryan Fontenot, Heidi Early, Emile Belsito, Phillip Early, Molli Early and fiancé, Chris Cormier, Joe Early, and Bret Early; six great grandchildren, Emma McCauley, Layla Early, Jackson Fontenot, Marlie Fontenot, Mason Vargas, and Delilah Ferritti.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mary Bell Montgomery Early; brothers, Jubal Early, Mitt Early, Joe Early, Julius Early, and Buck Early; and sisters, Glendene Dunston and Vera Coleman.

Personal condolences may be sent to the family at 332 Magnolia Avenue, New Iberia, LA 70563.

I miss you daddy more than I even knew that I could..Wish you were here!! You and mom taught me everything. I have tried, over these past few days, to describe to my husband this great man. I summed it up with the example of when the girls and I would do something we were not supposed to, we would accept whatever correction Mr. Early had for us and that was that. He did not demand respect, he earned it. He was not my blood father, but he took me into his family and loved me like one of his kids. I have not seen or talked to him in years, but loved him just the same. As I read the memories that his children and grandchildren have posted, I smile, because they are describing Mr. Early to a tee!! My prayers are with The Early family. Love you all.

Dad, dearest Dad,

I hope to be only half the man you were, that would make me the second finest Man God ever created. More than anything, I will miss your glare of pride, your gaze of approval, and even more than anything, your contented, happy whistle while you worked. You taught me to use a shovel, that's a lesson I will treasure, because if a man will happily use a shovel, he will succeed in anything he does. I already miss you to the point of despair. How will I ever get past the loss of my best friend, I guess I will just pick up that shovel and "dig and whistle" until I see you again in Heaven.

My Dad was many things; the best Dad you could ever have. He taught me how to love and how to fight, how to make the best Biscuits and Gravy, he knew where everything on the globe was located without looking. He was not braggadociuous never feeling the need to compete with anyone, he had a natural confidence an a moral compass that was as much who he was as his beautiful blue eyes. As my husband said so well the day Daddy died "He was one hell of a man"! I am so blessed having had that exceptional man as a father and I will carry him with me until I see him again with Jeahovahs grace!
