Melvin "Joe" Gauthreaux

MIRE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church for Melvin Gauthreaux, age 79, who passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 1:55 p.m. at his residence in Church Point.

Interment will be in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Gauthreaux was a native and lifelong resident of Mire (Church Point), where he was a parishioner of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. He retired as a jeweler from Delane's Fine Jewelry and was an avid gardener. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1831, where he was a past Faithful Navigator, 4th degree. He was also a retired member of the Army National Guard.

Survivors include one son, Dwayne Gauthreaux and wife, Connie, of Youngsville; one daughter, Jo Ann G. Usey and husband, Henri, of Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren, Allen Usey, Andrew Usey, Courtney Gauthreaux, Chelsea Gauthreaux, Blaise Gauthreaux and Casey Gauthreaux; one sister, Ruby Gauthreaux; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile Gauthreaux and the former Marie Alleman; one brother, Charles Gautreaux; and two sisters, Elsie Daigle and Elvie Duplechin.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be represented by the 4th degree Knights of Columbus.
