Alcide Dubea Obituary

Alcide "Al" Louis Dubea, a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away in the early morning of Thursday, June 20, 2024. Al was 86, an Avoyelles Parish native, and long-time resident of Pointe Coupee Parish. He was born in Marksville, LA on March 26, 1938 to Wade Joseph Dubea and Azelia "Hilda" Tassin Dubea who precede him in death. Al is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cheryl Ann Debetaz Dubea, his sister Betty Brouillette, his brother Earl Dubea & wife Judy, his three children - son Wade Dubea II & wife Marjorie "Marty," son John Dubea, and daughter Jane Chenevert & husband Shannon, his seven grandchildren - Sarah, Kaitlyn, Hunter, Aaron, Rachel, Charlie, and Andrew, his six great-grandchildren - Jade, Kannon, Briggs, Sutton, Karson, and Amelia, and honorary Dubea family members, Paula Guidry and Jim Jarreau. New Roads natives still fondly recall "Mr. Al" and his family restaurant, Mr. Deb's. Al was also a familiar face in the community while working at Ducote's Auto Parts, Feed Service, and Bergeron Pecans. Friends and patrons could always count on his embodiment of welcoming Cajun camaraderie and commitment to a job well done. Around town he was "Mr. Al," but at home he was "Daddy" and "Papa." Al was always ready to support his family in any way he could, from mowing a lawn, cooking a meal, or offering advice and comforting conversation. Family always looked forward to holidays at Al and Cheryl's house, where he could guarantee good food, hilarious stories, and wonderful memories that his family will continue to cherish. Visitation followed by a funeral mass will be held in New Roads on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Niland's Funeral Home, 210 Westend Dr. Mass will begin at 12:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 348 W. I met Mr Al when he was working at Feed Service in New Roads. We quickly became friends and i have many fond memories of Mr Al.He was always smiling and making jokes and he was an excellent cook!We are both from Avoyelles Parish so we would speak French to one another but Mr Al was more fluent than I was.I visited Mr Al at the nursing home in New Roads in May of 2024.I am so glad I got to visit Mr Al and his wife.Mr Al went to live at the nursing home because he would not let his wife go alone.Mr Al could not take care of her alone but he was not going to let her be there alone. That is Love!I loved Mr Al and always enjoyed being with him.We laughed and joked and reminised about old times when I visited him in May.MR Al was a great husband, father, grandfather and human being. My deepest heartfelt condolences to MR Al's family and to all those who knew MR AL. RIP MY FRIEND.
