Amos Gibson Obituary

A retired truck driver and resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Ascension Oaks Nursing Home. He was 85 and a native of Arbroth. He was a World War II veteran and the first black U.S. Marine in West Baton Rouge Parish. Visiting at Hall's Celebration Center on Friday, Sept. 2, from 7 a.m. until religious service at 8 a.m., conducted by Pastor Melissa Dunn. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by his daughters, Adrianne G. Veal and Patricia Armstead, Baton Rouge; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Gibson, Baton Rouge; sister-in-law, Alice Payton, Baton Rouge; sons, Hamptom Martin Gibson Sr., Michael Gibson and Quinton Gibson, of Baton Rouge, and Reginald Gibson, El Paso, Texas; sisters, Victoria Gibson Stewart, Baton Rouge, Sarah May and husband Willie, Alice Vernell, Stella Gibson Harleaux, Edwina Gibson Mathews, all of Milwaukee; brothers, Nathan Gibson, Milwaukee, and Louis Gibson, Port Allen; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, other family members, friends, and a loyal true friend, Davis Boudreaux. Preceded in death by has parents, Amos and Stella Butler Gibson; sons, Amos Gibson III and Damon Gibson; granddaughter, Shannon Veal; and wife, Beatrice Gibson.
